Animated GIF Art of Paolo Ceric
Digital artist Paolo Ceric is currently studying information processing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Croatia where his experiments with processing and digital art have resulted in a steady stream of fascinating animations which he publishes on his blog Patakk. Ceric tells me that he began about two years ago knowing very little about digital art or animation, but was fascinated watching other coders create art with code. For a while he simply tried to mimic other animations hed seen, but lately has truly developed his own personal style that varies from pulsating geometric patterns to glitch art and everything in between. 04 more images after the break...

Self Confidence Story
The business executive was deep in debt and could see no way out. Creditors were closing in on him. Suppliers were demanding payment. He sat on the park bench, head in hands, wondering if anything could save his company from bankruptcy.
Suddenly an old man appeared before him.
I can see that something is troubling you, he said.
After listening to the executives woes, the old man said,
I believe I can help you.
He asked the man his name, wrote out a check, and pushed it into his hand saying,
Take this money. Meet me here exactly one year from today, and you can pay me back at that time.
Then he turned and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

Transforms The Beaches By Tony Plan
Environmental Artist Tony Plant Transforms the Beaches of England into Swirling Canvases Armed with little more than standard garden rake, environmental artist Tony Plant transforms the breathtakingly scenic beaches of England into temporary canvases for his swirling sand drawings. Each work is created below the tidal zones where the sand is flatter and wetter, allowing for greater contrast as he quickly drags the rake into various geometric patterns. The beauty however is fleeting as the artworks last only a few hours before being consumed by the incoming tide. Recently Plants work was used in the music video above by Light Colours Sound for recording artist Ruarri Joseph If you liked this also check out the sand art of Jim Denevan and Andres Amadore. 08 more images after the break...

21 Touching Memory of Past
What started off as a small blog with just 6 family pictures based on a principle of matching an old photo with the present day setting, has now turned into highly successful site of digital nostalgia with hundreds of submissions from all over the world.
The idea about the project came to a 22-year-old Ontario-based Taylor Jones completely by accident. He was going through his parents old pictures and in one of the photos he saw his brother, sitting on the same kitchen table like Taylor was then. Taylor held the photo up in front of the table and took a new picture in only 6 weeks, the response to this idea worldwide was overwhelming, with millions views and hundreds of submissions on Taylors site.
One year later, Taylor took the idea offline, and released a book. Here are some of our favorite and most heart touching dear photograph picks.
Dear Photograph, Im so proud my boys childhood dreams were made of bravery, honor and valor. Fifteen years later, dreams really do come true. Nancy

Land of Giants Iceland
American firm Choi + Shine Architects designed these conceptual electricity pylons shaped like human figures to march across the Icelandic landscape. Each pylon would be assembled from modular parts, which could be adapted into various positions to given the impression the the statues are walking, climbing or crouching. The 30-metre tall statues would be supported on concrete footings and are an alteration of the steel frame used by existing pylons. Called Land of Giants, the project was originally submitted for a 2008 competition held by Icelandic transmission company Landsnet and the Association of Icelandic Architects. The design was one of four winners at the recent 2010 Boston Society of Architects Unbuilt Architecture Awards. 06 more images after the break...

Animal Prosthetics
People have been applying prosthesis to help the handicapped ones ever since the Egyptians but probably only recently we realized, were not the only ones suffering the pain on Earth. Unlike people, animals cant cry or complain about the pain, and the less resilient ones lead a much shorter and harder life in case of any accident. Even though veterinarians do provide considerable help, more serious surgeries or even usage of a special prosthetic is a fairly recent thing the humanity started doing for the animals.
While in the wild, animals can get hurt in a number of different ways, be that a disease or an accident, getting harmed by a human or larger predators, or any other. However, now more and more centers worldwide are applying mechanisms to help the animals recover from the injury and live as normal of a life as possible. Check out some inspiring examples of the how people have helped the animals by fitting them with a prosthetic needed!

Poor Client Comments Turned Into Posters
Frustrated by stupid client criticism, Irish graphic designers Mark Shanley and Paddy Treacy decided to turn their favorite worst feedback into posters. The guys worked together on so-called Sharp Suits series with a team of other ad creatives, designers, animators, directors, illustrators and more, who mustve all appreciated a chance to let out some of their exasperation in a creative way.
The series was exhibited at The Little Green Caf, Bar and Gallery in November, giving a chance to purchase an A3 poster of your choice. The guys, however, received so many orders during a 5 day exhibition, that theyve already stopped accepting them. All the thousands of euros they claim to have raised were donated to the Temple Street Children Hospital. 28 more after the break...

Eight Lies Of Mother Story
This story begins when I was a child: I was born poor. Often we hadnt enough to eat. Whenever we had some food, Mother often gave me her portion of rice.
While she was transferring her rice into my bowl, she would say Eat this rice, son! Im not hungry. This was Mothers First Lie. As I grew, Mother gave up her spare time to fish in a river near our house; she hoped that from the fish she caught, she could give me a little bit more nutritious food for my growth. Once she had caught just two fish, she would make a fish soup.

The 10,000 Bedroom Nazi Hotel But Never Used
Stretching for over three miles along the white sandy beach on Germany's Baltic Sea island of Ruegen, lies the worlds biggest hotel with 10,000 bedrooms all facing the sea. But for 70 years since it was built, no holiday maker has ever stayed there. This is hotel Prora, a massive building complex built between 1936 and 1939 by the Nazis as part of their "Strength through Joy" ("Kraft durch Freude," KdF) programme. The aim was to provide leisure activities for German workers and spread Nazi propaganda. Locals call Prora the Colossus because of its monumental structure.
Prora lies on an extensive bay between the Sassnitz and Binz regions, known as the Prorer Wiek, on the narrow heath (the Prora) which separates the lagoon of the Groer Jasmunder Bodden from the Baltic Sea. The complex consist of eight identical buildings that extend over a length of 4.5 kilometres and are roughly 150 metres from the beach. A workforce of 9,000 took three years to build it, starting in 1936, and the Nazis had long-term plans for four identical resorts, all with cinema, festival halls, swimming pools and a jetty where Strength Through Joy cruise ships would dock.
Photo Link
Hitler's plans for Prora were ambitious. He wanted a gigantic sea resort, the "most mighty and large one to ever have existed", holding 20,000 beds. All rooms were planned to overlook the sea, while corridors and sanitation are located on the land side. Each room of 5 by 2.5 metres was to have two beds, a wardrobe and a sink. There were communal toilets and showers and ballrooms on each floor. In the middle, a massive building was to be erected that could be converted into a military hospital in case of war. 13 more images after the break...

In the 1980s, Yu Youzhen was merely an ordinary vegetable farmer in Wuhan City Hongshan District Donghu Village Huojiawa who, after years of building and additions, came to possess three 5-storey private buildings, most of which were rented out. In 2008, Yu Youzhen chanced upon [government policies for] the requisition, demolition, and redevelopment of land [mostly takes place in rural areas, where when a peasants land is expropriated by the government and the peasant is compensated for it with new houses or apartments in other locations] and was successively given 21 apartments [for her previous property]. Inca Girl Frozen For 500 Years
Inca Girl Frozen For 500 Years, Now On Display SALTA, Argentina The maiden, the boy, the girl of lightning: they were three Inca children, entombed on a bleak and frigid mountaintop 500 years ago as a religious sacrificeUnearthed in 1999 from the 22,000-foot summit of Mount Llullaillaco, a volcano 300 miles west of here near the Chilean border, their frozen bodies were among the best preserved mummies ever found, with internal organs intact, blood still present in the heart and lungs, and skin and facial features mostly unscathed. No special effort had been made to preserve them. The cold and the dry, thin air did all the work. They froze to death as they slept, and 500 years later still looked like sleeping children, not mummies.

Cambodian Deities in Trees
Imagine, if you will, walking through the streets of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Its a balmy evening, and while its dark you can still feel the days heat rising from the pavement slabs. You have just finished watching a film with friends, and you are returning to your inner city apartment. Imagine your surprise when you see the ghostly image of Buddha appear before you in the leaves of a tree. You blink yourself silly trying to work out whether this is your moment of truth, or whether it is the work of an amazing artist. Such was the dilemma facing Cambodians recently during Clement Briends exhibition, Cambodian Trees.
French photographer Briend is very good at taking pictures. He is also very good at projecting digital images onto unassuming surfaces to create interesting dichotomies. During his time away from being a professor of art at University of Valenciennes, Clement traveled to Cambodia to explore this technique. Setting these night time incarnations against an urban backdrop gives his work a uniquely haunting appeal.

Stuttgart City Library
How often do you read? Of course, we're not talking about our articles, because we are sure you love to go through those, we are talking about physical(read non electronic) books. Books you can lend from a library, take home, snuggle in a warm blanket and lose yourself in some quality spent time with your book. Well, no matter how much you read, we are sure you would read a lot more if you had a library like this in your city. Stuttgart City Library just opened it's doors last week, and caused a lot of hype not only amongst those avid book lovers from Stuttgart, but also amongst ones who love architecture and design. You see, this library isn't the average public building you come across everyday. Designed by architect Eun Young Yi,[http://www.yiarchitects.com/] this city library looks like a complicated two color Rubik's cube puzzle from the outside! But step in and you will be surprised at its simplicity.
The interiors sport a very open layout with books visible throughout. Some may find the whites a bit sterile, but make no mistake, books are the center of attention here. But, what really caught our attention, and we are sure it caught yours as well are the stairs! They are so randomly placed, connecting each floor, but also connecting the whole space together. Youre not just climbing the stairs, youre exploring the environment around you, the view of the library is completely exposed to your eyes. We bet that climbing those stairs feels so triumphant! 14 more images after the break...

Pink Lake in Senegal Retba
Of course there is no such thing as a lake made out of strawberry milkshake ingredients outside of Willy Wonkas world that is. But its kind of nice to dream. Lake Retba or Lac Rose gives us that fantasy, even if it is just on the surface. Situated north of the Cap Vert Peninsula in Senegal, northeast of Dakar, Lake Retba, or as the French refer to it Lac Rose, is pinker than any milkshake youve ever come face to straw with. And once you see it, you too will agree that a sippy straw may be in order over a boat. Experts say the lake gives off its pink hue due to cyanobacteria, a harmless halophilic bacteria found in the water. 14 more images after the break...

Derawar Fort Pakistan
Derawar Fort is a large square fortress in Pakistan near Bahawalpur. The forty bastions of Derawar are visible for many miles in Cholistan Desert. The walls have a circumference of 1500 metres and stand up to thirty metres high.
The first fort on the site was built by Hindu Rajput, Rai Jajja Bhati of Jaisalmer. It remained in the hands of the royal family of Jaisalmer until captured and completely rebuilt by the nawabs of Bahawalpur in 1733. In 1747, the fort slipped from the hands of the Abbasis owing to Bahawal Khan's preoccupations at Shikarpur. Nawab Mubarak Khan took the stronghold back in 1804.
The nearby mosque was modelled after that in the Red Fort of Delhi. There is also a royal necropolis of the Abbasi family, which still owns the stronghold. The area is rich in archaeological artifacts associated with Ganweriwala, a vast but as-yet-unexcavated city of the Indus Valley Civilization.Wiki 14 more images after the break...

760 Stacked Bicycles
In order to address the problem of over consumption, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei created a giant bicycle installation made of 760 individual bikes. The artist chose bicycles as a symbol of mass production quite understandably, as they are the most popular means of transportation among the workers of China. Besides representing over consumption, the chain and sprocket mechanism of the bicycles also symbolizes the matrix of the main power of the country: its labor force, its people. The installation is currently being exhibited in San Gimignanos Galleria Continua, Italy, through February 16.
